Charles and Ray Eames created the lounge chair La Chaise for a competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The ‘Floating Figure’ sculpture by Gaston Lachaise, whose voluminous shape has obvious affinities with the Eameses’ lounge chair, inspired its name.
